HOMEWORK ![]()
The children will take home their folder every night. One side of the folder is labeled Keep at Home and the other side is labeled Return to School. Please look at the papers in the folder every night with your child. There may be important announcements there, and there may also be homework that your child needs to complete and return to school the next day. Also, by looking over your child's corrected papers you will get an idea of what we are doing in school and how your child is progressing.
If your child completes his homework and turns it in the next morning, she/he will get a sticker attached to the calendar inside the folder. At the end of the week if the child has 5 stickers for the week, she/he gets to choose a prize.
Children who do not hand in their homework on time will be kept in from recess to complete the work. If the child does not turn in the missing work by Friday of the week the work was assigned, that work will be given a failing grade. If a child is absent, she/he is expected to make up the missed work in a reasonable amount of time.
After the children are back in the school routine, the daily homework will consist of a 10-15 minute spelling or writing assignment, 5 minutes of math flashcard drill, and 15 minutes of reading in a book of their choice. If a child has not finished other work from that day in school, the unfinished work will also become homework.
Dismissal Procedure School ends at 3:15 p.m. All students are dismissed by grade level. 3rd grade is dismissed last, so they usually come out of the building about 3:20. The children are escorted to their own bus by the teacher. If a child is being picked up by a parent or other designated person at the end of the day, that person must check in at the desk in front of the school and receive a voucher to give to the teacher in exchange for the child. If a child is riding a different bus than usual home, or being picked up instead of riding the bus, the child must bring in a note from the parent the morning of the change.
