Summer Learning

Summer Reading

Candor Free Library

When children are out of school for the summer, they tend to lose ground in reading and math skills as they are no longer doing those tasks on a daily basis. Help your child avoid this summer slide by having them do fun reading and math activities on the computer during the summer.

Have your child join a summer reading program.

Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program for students in Grades 1 - 6. Students who read 8 books and record them in their reading journal, will win a free book. Completed journals can be turned in any time between May 16 and Sept. 5, 2017

A Summer Reading Program called Build a Better World will take place at the Candor Free Library this summer. Children are encouraged to read and win prizes. There will also be activities at the library for the children. See information on this page about the library hours, etc.

Candor's local library at 2 Bank Street, Candor, has many things worth checking out. Besides books, you may also take out Kindles, Nooks, DVDs, CDs, audio books, and Play-Aways . They have computers in the library that you may use for free, and free wireless available 24 hours a day, although you will have to access it from outside when the library is closed.

In addition, with your library card, you may download and/or stream audiobooks and movies through the Hoopla app. Magazines are available for download through the Zinio app. Young children can watch animated books through Tumble Books. Anyone may practice languages with the Mango app. If you are looking for a specific book, you can borrow it through the Finger Lakes Library System directly from your computer. The book will be delivered to Candor where you can pick it up from the library.
